Affirmation Monday 06042020

No matter how crazy you think life is, you are absolutely making it work. You get up every day to power through with a brave face. You seem to be able to figure out what needs to be done even though it seems daunting. With all the challenges, you seem to be working through it.

You are organising your life through all of that and you should be proud of that accomplishment. It is time to stop comparing yourself with others and work on outdoing your past self. We need more beings dedicated to the cause of self love and finding one’s purpose. You got this and don’t you forget that.

It’s time to ignore the voice in your head that has been telling you not to do it. This is usually coming from a place of fear. What do you really have to lose IF you try something new? Take a chance and just do it; the hard part will be over.

Time for Change

Is life making you busy or you are using LIFE as an excuse not to do the things you need to do?

I made an effort to start this blog, and I was consistent with semi-regular postings. When things became a bit more demanding but still manageable, I rode that busy train to the point where I didn’t post anything for two weeks. I did, however, find time to scroll through Instagram in the name of clearing my head. I was allowing this sluggish nature to get the best of me; it’s fun to stay in bed sleeping and scrolling through social media, but I needed to do right by myself and develop.

It may be hard to believe, but you are meant for something more than mediocrity. Scrolling through social media, watching others impact change is more than what you were put on the earth to do. If you think you have no idea what you are meant to do in this life, you are wrong. You know it, it’s been hovering around you since the beginning. It’s time to focus your energy on letting this become apparent to you. Now is the perfect time to do it because you are at home and streaming tv is becoming a bit tired. If you are like me and avoided connecting with yourself because it was too hard, take a chance on yourself.

Start small; find out things about yourself by challenging your thinking. One thing I started doing was writing challenges. The complexity of these challenges pulled me out of my comfort zone and made me ok with being vulnerable.

During this time of isolation, learn more about yourself to resume the growth process. You are fantastic and complex; it’s time to unlock that door to find out your potential.

Happy March!

It’s been two months since the beginning of the year and it’s time to check in:

  1. How have you been?
  2. Is your (mental, physical, spiritual, emotional) health ok?
  3. Have you been saying your positive affirmations?
  4. Have you been remaining positive?
  5. Have you been accomplishing the goals you have set for yourself?
  6. Have you been consistent with your objectives?
  7. Have you been blessing the world with your magic?
  8. Have you been loving yourself wholeheartedly?
  9. Have you been tuning out the negativity?

Kudos to you if you have. I’m happy that you know your worth and you’re willing to maintain that level of consistency. I know there are days when curling up in a ball is the easiest thing, but you choose to go out there to shine bright. Remember you inspire people, so go out there and be that boss.

If you haven’t, there is still time to be your best self. You don’t have to wait until the end of the year, you can do it at any time with the right mindset. If you don’t feel like you are being pushed in that direction, it’s time to change your environment. Everyone is tasked to find their purpose in life; the longer you wait by engaging in distractions the further you are from your happiness. So do better and be better for your future self, success is waiting to be intimately acquainted with you.
Sending positivity your way!

Messages To My Younger Self (The Intro)

I meant to write this intro for the longest time; However, I didn’t feel it was the right time until now. As you may have seen on my blog, there is a section about this topic. I’m going to dive into different times where I should make peace with my past self. I feel it is time to forgive myself for setting the bar so high then guilting myself when I didn’t accomplish those tasks.

I learnt it is ok to go at my pace and that I determine when the speed/intensity increases. Comparing myself with others only made my self-esteem plummet. Getting older and experiencing so many things made it so important to be grateful for my existence on this physical plane. It is imperative to focus on embracing the positives even though it is minuscule in my eyes (so, therefore, it is so much more).

Waking up and returning home daily should be cherished because the uncertainty of death hits home so many times. I learnt to give myself time to be happy, to be sad, and being a workaholic, time to rest. I pay attention to all the signs that are presented by the universe. I am a creator in my own right so I intend to create things that will aid in the world’s blossoming. I now trust in myself to trust in the decisions I make. Overall, I need to know myself so I can take on any challenge I encounter.

At the tender age of six, Ruby Bridges advanced the cause of civil rights in November 1960 when she became the first African American student to integrate an elementary school in the South.

Born on September 8, 1954, Bridges was the oldest of five children for Lucille and Abon Bridges, farmers in Tylertown, Mississippi. When Ruby was two years old, her parents moved their family to New Orleans, Louisiana in search of better work opportunities.

Ruby and her mother were escorted by four federal marshals to the school every day that year. She walked past crowds screaming vicious slurs at her. Undeterred, she later said she only became frightened when she saw a woman holding a black baby doll in a coffin. She spent her first day in the principal’s office due to the chaos created as angry white parents pulled their children from school. Many parents withdrew their children permanently. Ruby ate lunch alone and sometimes played with her teacher at recess, but she never missed a day of school that year.

Words Hurt as Well as Sticks and Stones (Part I)

Have you ever wondered why certain words are spelt or pronounced the way they are even though it doesn’t seem logical? I was often confused as well until I stumbled on a lecture about etymology. Etymology is the study of the origin of words and how their meanings have changed throughout history.

I found this fascinating as it was revealed to me that English is a mix of other languages with “English pronunciations” and these words are rooted in primarily Greek and Latin words, and these Greek and Latin words were probably rooted in some ancient language and the cycle continues. Every time I found a word, I would search; at times it was clear, but other times I was sent down the rabbit hole to find the “original” meaning.

One word that had me more aware than ever was the word “spelling.” When I did my research, I saw lots of videos that said that this word is rooted in the word spells. When words are said negatively, it can purposefully put a curse on someone. This thought brought me back to the phrase “self-fulfilling prophesy”; you repeat something terrible about yourself, and ultimately, it becomes real. On the flip side, when words are said positively, one can essentially bless themselves and attract opportunities. This ties in with the “law of attraction” and “putting things out in the universe” which are quite popular recently. Therefore, when you say “I am…”, you are bringing blessings to yourself and attracting opportunities.

I hope you found this as interesting as I did.

We know what is best for us. Why are allowing outsiders to tell us how to express ourselves, learn, speak, dress, etc? Let’s reclaim that power to be our truest self for we are everything great under the sun!

Day of Creativity (Part II)

I committed myself to having a monthly “day of creativity”. A day where I would disconnect all devices, be in tuned with nature and release all the words that have been forcefully oppressed. I didn’t know what day I would choose; I thought about the same day each month, but that felt too predictable, and unlike me so I decided to let my body tell me when it was time. Many times I ignored my intuition and regretted it, so now I’m all for listening.

I had booked my birthday off intending to take a trip because I don’t work on my birthday anymore (a story for a future blog). I had the day off, and I had nothing planned because I couldn’t decide on anything and I couldn’t commit an extended trip because I had a workshop the following day. The first option was to do a day trip to somewhere in the UK but there wasn’t anything that stood out enough for me to have the tourist experience plus I didn’t give myself time to research places.

Then it came to me that I should use my birthday as the day to disconnect from the interweb to brew those creative juices. It would coincide with the year 2029 and a full moon. It was indeed a great time to reconnect with ones’ self.

We need to call others out when they have done us wrong. It doesn’t have to be done in a boisterous way; however, when it’s done, the power that is accompanied with these words should change their lives forever. We need to let others know it’s not okay to disregard our existence to fulfil their daily intake of misery.

For us to create the magic we were destined to accomplish, we need to support every other genuinely. There are so many ways we can do support each other; from purchasing from businesses to saying uplifting words. Let’s do our part to make the tribe better.

Day of Creativity (Part I)

At the beginning of the year, I made a vow that I would take the time to “go off the grid” to reset and realign focus on the things that are important to me. I heard of this idea when I went to a workshop last year. “It sparked creativity,” she said, and it was able to propel her in the personal and professional aspects of her life. I felt I needed to do that because I haven’t been able to write a poem in ages, and I felt shattered. All I was doing was writing for the blog, and I wanted to go back to the point where I was a creative on all levels. I did try “trials and error” days where I disconnected for a few hours, and I felt the difference. So this time I would do an entire day.

I turned off my computer, my phone and all other electronic devices (aside from my fridge). This was hard as I live in a(n) flat (apartment) that is electric. After I switched off everything, I could already feel the difference. My body was free from the electromagnetic wave, and I could begin the process of reflective and intentive meditation. I opened the windows, closed my eyes and allowed my sensory experience to commence.

It was so refreshing to consume so much of what nature had to offer. This left my brain so clear that the words were ready to be put down on paper. I would write and let the words flow; when I read it, it was as if these words were handpicked to be shared. I alternated between meditating and writing; I also created tasks for myself with deadlines and made affirmations to be said daily. After this day, I decided to make this at least a monthly thing. You should try this for it will change your life!

“I am” are the two most powerful words; however, it is misused so often. We use words to demean ourselves and others for we have been conditioned to believe that it is okay. FYI, IT. IS. NOT. OKAY!! We are amazing and thus should speak words to reflect this truth. I am magical; I am greatness; I am powerful…(and the list goes on.)

🥳Celebrating Milestones🥳

If my blog were a baby, she would be at the point where she is more aware of her surroundings. She would try to talk, producing sounds unfamiliar to me, and mimic everything I do. We would both have that love and trust surrounded by unlimited happiness.

Six months ago, I decided to be brave enough to publish my first post publically and chose to keep the consistency. It was such a nerve-wracking experience as I was scared of the rejections I would face when I made myself vulnerable by sharing my inner thoughts to people other than my close friends.

I’m glad I took that jump for I no longer wanted to live in regret. I get such joy from writing, and the words flow so smoothly. I love the challenge I get from pushing myself to be more creative. I learn so much from others who share their stories with me after reading my blogs.

I thank all those who read my blogs and share your feedback and encouragement. It is a rewarding experience as I grow and expand. I urge you to share with others who you think would appreciate the content. I want to inspire as many people possible to reach their potential and stay on the path to be their best self!!

It’s always a sad day when you have to say goodbye to someone in this physical space. We take comfort in the fact that life is a cycle so with every existence there is a beginning and an end. Here’s to all the melanated heroes who have transitioned and transcended. Your legacies will remain with us always; as we can’t advance our greatness with appreciating your contributions.

Rest in Magnificence:

Our Hair, in all its amazingness, goes against gravity. It is diverse  in nature and such can be adapted to suit a number of styles. Love the curliness cause your hair represents strength in unity (that’s why it’s it’s hard to detangle at times).

Black don’t Crack Ambassadors (#BDCA):

Our melanated tribe continues to defy the effects of ageing. I mean; look at Miss Cicely Tyson, our reigning queen of #BDCA, and all the other amazing melanated humans who radiate the world with their beauty. This amazing trait is due to having long telomeres.

Telomeres are sequences found at the end of chromosomes; they prevent chromosome deterioration, and the fusion with other chromosomes. Studies have shown that they have been linked to ageing and diseases (long telomeres=good, and we got that!!).

You Are What You Call Yourself

I have this friend that continually calls me a girl even though I remind them that I don’t identify with that word. They didn’t seem to understand the idea behind it, but I felt the need to explain my stance to prevent any further confusion. So the story goes like this:

“I made a conscious effort not to refer to myself as a girl anymore under any circumstances. Most people thought it was weird, but I connected the word girl with childish and finite things, and I didn’t want to associate myself with that any longer. I associated woman with growth, success, etc. and thus wanted to attract all these things, plus more, into my life.

When I made the transition from girl to woman, I had this metaphysical change. I was more willing to embrace changes as well as accomplish the goals I set out for myself. My poise changed and I became more graceful. You may not think that this was the only reason, but it was indeed the first flap in the butterfly effect. I am glad I made this decision!”

In life, you need to do what is best for you, and this was a great win for me.
